QUARTER SAWN WHITE OAK

Quarter-Sawn White Oak is admired for its distinctive grain pattern. “Quarter-Sawn” refers to the manner in which the wood is cut from the log that creates a straight, consistent grain pattern with a characteristic “fleck or ray” across the grain. Color may range from light to medium brown with occasional pin knots. A distinctively textured wood species with a straight grain pattern and a true-brown undertone that works beautifully with traditional looks, as well as transitional and soft-contemporary.

STANDARD STAINS

We offer a beautiful palette of hand-rubbed, stained finishes that enhance the natural character and grain of the wood species. Our finish artisans meticulously sand the surface and profiles of the door so that the stain is absorbed evenly. The stain is then sprayed over the surface and wiped by hand so that it develops a beautiful, transparent color that fully showcases the grain and character of the wood. Our durable, catalyzed conversion varnish sealer and topcoat protect the finish and create a soft luster with a smooth, silky feel. A wildly popular look in White Oak is to go Unfinished, it gives it a weathered matte patina and the natural unfinished tones get better with time.

CHERRY

Cherry hardwoods are admired for their rich, beautiful color, satiny smooth texture, and uniform grain pattern. Cherry is one of our most popular wood species for cabinetry, and its color ranges from light to medium reddish-brown, with some areas of light creamy color. Small mineral flecks, pitch pockets, and areas of sapwood occur naturally. The rich color of Cherry hardwoods will darken with age and exposure to sunlight.

Standard Stains

Our finish artisans meticulously sand the surface and profiles of the door so that the stain is absorbed evenly. The stain is then sprayed over the surface and wiped by hand so that it develops a beautiful, transparent color that fully showcases the grain and character of the wood. Our durable, catalyzed conversion varnish sealer and topcoat protect the finish and create a soft luster with a smooth, silky feel.

Glazes and accents

Glaze is a semi-transparent color that is applied over the stain for added depth and dimension. Along profiles and corners, the glaze highlights and accentuates the carved details of the door. Glaze is an artistic, hand-applied finish technique that will exhibit subtle and unique variations. We offer three types of glazes; a full-coverage glaze which is sprayed over the entire surface and tints the base stain color, and an “Accent” glaze that is applied only along profiles and edges. “Patina” is a collection of stain/glaze finishes that are hand-detailed to create an antiqued appearance with beautiful dimension and depth. Before the finish is applied, corners and edges are softened and the surface of the wood is “distressed” to create a look of aged and time-worn character. Glaze is then applied to accentuate the carved details of the door. Outside corners and edges are then "air-brushed" to create a one-of-a-kind Patina. For Heavy Patina finishes, we create additional rustic character by heavily distressing the wood and the finish with chisel marks, joint cracks, rasp marks, bird-peck and dry-brush. Patina finishes are artisan finishes and will have unique variations with each rendering.

WEATHERED

Our “Weathered” collection of finishes looks as if it has been exposed to years of sun, wind and rain. Like an old drift fence, tumbled driftwood or seasoned barn planks, each of our Weathered finishes portrays wood that has been exposed to the elements.

Our special finishing process raises the grain to expose swirls and patterns with a uniquely textured surface. The surface is then lightly distressed by hand to emulate age and wear. After staining, glaze is applied to highlight the raised grain and then lightly buffed on raised edges and around knots to feature the stain color below. Because each cut of wood is unique, every Weathered finish is a one-of-a-kind rendition that looks like it has been aged and worn by time itself.

Our Weathered Finish collection includes an array of colors that evoke images of sun bleached driftwood, charred campfires or time-worn dock planks. Choose from a variety of wood species that each have their own charm and character marks, and then select a door style to make it uniquely yours.

heirloom

"Heirloom" is a collection of stain/glaze finishes that are hand-detailed to create an “antiqued” appearance with beautiful dimension and depth. Before the finish is applied, corners and edges are softened and the surface of the wood is “distressed” to create a look of aged and time-worn character. Glaze is then applied to accentuate the carved details of the door. Heavy Heirloom finishes are chiseled and rasped to create a more rustic appearance. Heirloom finishes are exceptionally artistic, hand-detailed finishes that will exhibit unique, subtle variations.

PAINTABLE

We go to extra lengths to ensure our painted cabinetry is luxuriously smooth, durable, and beautiful for years to come. As technology advances, engineered wood materials have advanced with even more benefits for painted finishes. Our Paintable cabinetry is crafted with cutting-edge Premium-Grade HDF (High-Density Fiberboard). Premium-grade HDF is a high-quality, engineered wood product specifically designed for painted finishes with ultra-smooth, ultra-dense material that machines with crisp, precise detail. It is ultra-stable and has minimal expansion and contraction. It is an ideal material for crafting high-quality, smooth, and durable cabinetry doors. We also can paint wood doors. If you want us to paint a wood door just let us know and please note that wood naturally expands and contracts with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. As wood moves microscopically at joints, this movement will be more apparent with painted finishes than stained finishes and will look like a small fracture or seam at the joint. This is a natural characteristic of painted finishes on wood.

standard paint colors

Paint finishes have gained popularity in recent years for their crisp, classic styling and expansive color palette. Some homeowners select paint for their entire kitchen, while others choose it as an accent color for an island or a cook center. Various shades of white and neutral colors are popular for full kitchens, while intense colors tend to be selected for accent pieces. Our full-coverage enamel paints are smooth and durable, with rich, saturated color. We offer an attractive palette of fashionable and classic colors along with a Personal Paint Match program and custom colors to create endless options to match any preference.

Glazes and accents

A glaze is a semi-transparent color applied over the paint for added depth and dimension. The glaze is wiped off all flat surfaces but it creates a darkened highlight along profiles and corners to accentuate the details of the door. The glaze adds a subtle wash of color to the base paint color, darkening the overall color slightly and creating a subtle brush-stroked look. Glazing is an artistic, hand-detailing technique that will exhibit subtle variations with each application. Rub-Thru is available as an option for any Painted finish and when it is specified, corners and edges are sanded to reveal the underlying wood to create a time-worn, antiqued look. Accent Glaze is applied over the paint with a small brush to the profiles, corners and edges of the door. Accent Glaze is designed to accentuate the details of the door (similar to a Glaze) but without affecting the base paint color of the door. Glazing is an artistic, hand-detailing technique that will exhibit subtle variations with each application.

KNOTTY ALDER

Knotty Alder is chosen for its rustic, informal appearance. Knots vary in size and distribution and include tight, sound knots as well as rustic, open, and split knots. Alder is a smooth hardwood with color and graining similar to Cherry, ranging from a light honey color to a reddish-brown hue. With time and exposure to sunlight, Knotty Alder will turn a shade lighter in color, which is a natural characteristic of the species.

MAPLE

One of our most popular options, Maple, is known for its smooth texture and creamy white color, which can exhibit subtle variations from white to light brown. Maple has varying areas of density that will absorb stains differently, creating a somewhat mottled appearance with darker stains. Mineral streaks (dark mineral deposits absorbed from the soil in which the tree grew) are a naturally occurring variation. With its smooth texture and fine grain, Maple is an ideal wood species for painted finishes as well as stained finishes.

HICKORY

Hickory is known for its prominent grain and dramatic color variation, which can range from creamy white to dark brown within the same door panel. This color variation is characteristic of the species and is completely random. Mineral streaks and sound knots are sometimes present in this exceptionally dense and strong hardwood. We can also use Rustic Hickory, known for its dramatic rustic appearance and color variation, as well as knots, burls, mineral streaks, and pitch pockets. The color will vary from creamy white to dark brown. Knots (which may be open or closed) and character marks will be random and prevalent in all shapes and sizes. This beautiful wood species offers versatility with rustic appeal. Stain color will temper and soften some of the color variations, whereas a natural finish will showcase the color variation.

RED OAK

Red Oak is recognized for its prominent grain pattern and texture, which varies from a tight, straight grain to a distinctive arch pattern. Color ranges from a creamy white to light brown with reddish hues. Occasional pin knots and mineral streaks may also occur, but overall color and grain are fairly consistent.
